RT Score: 56

This movie has a 56 for a reason.  It just wasn’t very good.  Besides that though, many people will be offended by this movie.  Some by the amount of Journey songs.  Some by the risque scenes.  Some by the glorification of sex, drugs and rock & roll.  What most offended me was the quality of the singing.

It was awful.  It was quite apparent that the actors were cast for name recognition and not for singing ability (or even acting ability for that matter).  Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough and Catherine Zeta Jones gave it their best, but it is obvious they aren’t on Broadway for a reason.  In a vacuum the vocal quality was quite poor, but given the quality of singing in films recently (namely Pitch Perfect and Les Miserables) this is even worse by comparison.

If the other parts of this film were great, then the singing could be overlooked, but I hardly enjoyed this movie on any level.  There were a couple entertaining scenes, but overall I have no choice but to give this movie a score of “Poor”.
